BSNL Rural Initiatives

Affordable Access

• Services offered at the most affordable tariffs for rural customers . Specially designed rural Broadband tariff at the monthly rental of Rs 99/- or Rs 150/- for the bandwidth of 512 Kbps with free modem under the USOF scheme

PC penetration

• Tie-up with M/s Novatium for Thin client solution based on server client architecture to reduce the total cost of ownership for the rural customers.
• Tie up with HCL today for PCs bundled with Broadband connections at easy instalments to address the entry barrier of high initial cost

Broadband Kiosks

• BSNL has taken initiative to setup Broadband Kiosks in rural areas. The first kiosk was inaugurated at Savlaj Village in Sangli District of Maharashtra Circle in Feb. 09. 4 such Kiosks established till date.
• Kiosks planned to be established as entertainment hub for the villagers. Apart from internet surfing, value added services in form of utility bill payments, railway ticketing, content download etc offered.
• Services of local interest such as agricultural trading, education on crops, micro finance etc will be unique feature of each kiosk.
• Plans to establish 30,000 Broadband Kiosk over a period of 3 years.
